Hat policy
The hat stays on during the steps. All of them. It has never been seen off.
Wanted: for stealing leaderboards.
Every hive has a story about the day Outlaw Bee rode in. High noon. Tumbleweed (origin unknown, this is a garden). He tipped the hat, took first place on the daily leaderboard, and left without saying a single word.
The wanted poster says “armed with steps.” The bandana is purely for drama — there is no dust storm, there has never been a dust storm, and he knows it. The star on the hat is self-appointed. Nobody has had the courage to bring this up.
Disputes in his hive are settled the old way: whoever has more steps at sundown wins. He has never lost at sundown. He schedules his walks accordingly, which some call cheating and he calls “knowing the law.”
The hat stays on during the steps. All of them. It has never been seen off.
Sundown step-duels: undefeated. Conveniently, he picks the sundowns.
“This hive ain’t big enough for two streaks.” It is. He says it anyway.
Tips his hat to every dog he passes. The dogs do not know why. They respect it.
